The Documentary

Ah... It's a long story and the short version would just tell you: check out Forward The Revolution.

But basically this is my deal:
I graduated college in NYC in 2010. Got a film degree. Had an existential crisis. Moved back to Mexico.

I worked in Mexico City for a year, in a production and distribution company for film.
So, that's pretty cool right? That's what my friends kept saying because I was working in the industry, going to festivals, meeting people, etc.
But it didn't make me happy.
Actually, it was kind of sad to see the ridiculousness of it all. The glamor of festivals actually made me feel more and more disenchanted by film and art. It felt like it was all about posing around and drinking and egos and magazines and twitter and... that's not what I wanted. I didn't know what I wanted, but it was not that. Although at some point I thought it was, and I tried to convinced myself about that it was.

Then a serious of ambiguous aspirations, professional advice and inspirational encouragement from people who I admired, convinced me I was going to make a documentary about people who voluntarily leave mainstream culture and understanding of success behind. People who choose not to have jobs or money.

I crossed paths with Benjamin Lesage, who you can read about in the website above.
I started the documentary-making and it's an ongoing process that will hopefully lead to something in some years.

I don't travel without money anymore. I learned a lot about traveling without money. I learned I'm not dependent upon it. But I have chosen to work once in a while and to have a little bit of money when traveling and buying stuff for the documentary like hard drives, caned air or lenses for my camera. Or cookies when I feel like eating them.

I have many hours of footage in the USA and Mexico and will soon head up to the USA West Coast, Canada and eventually Europe to keep finding people who live in voluntary "poverty," learning from them and comparing their philosophies and lifestyles.
